Executive Chef Phil John and his wife Deborah have been serving up fresh food in the Wildwoods for decades.

In their free time, Phil is an avid surfer and Deb (as she prefers to go by) loves to spend time in the garden. Phil says, “Our outdoor recreational passions have collectively inspired the food we serve – except that is for Deb’s homemade desserts”. For 43 years they operated the Sand Castle Restaurant, Phil in the kitchen and Deb running the front of the house. This is where they actually met. Deb says, “Phil was a 20-year-old surfer/chef and I was a 19-year-old waitress. We went on three dates, and then he had the nerve to ask me to marry him. After first ignoring him, I said yes.” One might say they are the modern-day equivalent to Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. Phil continues to take his surfing very seriously, regardless of the season, and together they travel the world in search of fresh waves and coastal cusine. Local favorite surf spot? Phil says, “The Rocks at Diamond Beach.”
